SYLO Associates attend Open Doors Thame 2016
Open Doors Thame is a community event run by local businesses for local businesses to increase their profile in the community.
Sally White has been one of the main organisers this year and has helped to make it another successful event. The Open Doors event encouraged businesses that don’t have a “shop front” to come forward and participate. All these businesses play an important role in the local community as well as the local economy, providing thousands of jobs for local residents, yet still many people are not aware of the diversity and scope of the local businesses in Thame.
Open Doors aim to instil a sense of pride in the local employees; help people learn more about current and potential suppliers and service providers as well as promoting their businesses to potential customers.
We had comments from attendees again this year stating that they had no idea there were so many businesses here in Thame, and only a small proportion of local businesses had stands at the event. Lynn Palmer from Lynn Palmer Architects Ltd said “I thoroughly enjoyed the morning, giving us the opportunity to show case some of our work and just to let some of the public know we exist.”
As an HR consultancy, SYLO Associates don’t have a “product” we can show off, so we need to speak to people to get our name known in the town. We have had some really positive feedback from the people we spoke to on the day.
Sarah Stevens said “It’s not just about creating new leads for us, we also want people to realise that all these businesses exist in Thame and they can “shop” locally for more than just consumables”.
It is also a brilliant way for Lord Williams’ students to get work experience contacts or Apprenticeship opportunities; our next work experience student is someone we met through the Open Doors event as the student, with an interest in HR, came up to the stand and was really keen to find out more about what we do.
Open Doors 2017 have already pencilled in Saturday 1st July 2017 for next years event, so if you are interested in participating please get in touch. firstname.lastname@example.org
