Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is the means by which one person helps another through purposeful conversation: a process in which two people meet to explore personal problems and to identify solutions. Counselling attempts through face-to-face or virtual sessions to help problem-solving, providing a space for the person to reflect, identify issues and reflect on emotions and responses.

Why should you invest in Counselling for your employees?

Counselling can provide support to cover a range of topics from Depression, Anxiety, overall Mental Health supporting your team’s overall wellbeing. Whether through team or individual sessions, counselling can help alleviate feelings and behaviours as well as provide support for specific situations, such as bereavement and those parents/carers of children who are homeschooling. All these feeling and behaviours impact on the ability of a person to produce high-quality work in both the short and long term, impacting not only themselves but also all those around them and, potentially, your business.

Why should you use SYLO | Beyond HR for Counselling support?

By employing the expert resources of an HR Consultancy, such as SYLO | Beyond HR., at the very start of the process; you can ensure that from identifying who and why particular employees need Counselling support, you are assured that you are providing the very best, for not only your employees, but also your organisation. We can ensure, for example, that this support is an integral part of your Employee Wellbeing Strategies and Leadership Skills training.

Our Trainer Psychotherapist, and HR Consultant, Clare Sandman, provides individual confidential sessions to help with specific issues whether personal or workplace challenges and our Counselling support is structured as follows: –

· 6-week cycles of Counselling (total of 6 hours over 6 weeks); although this can be varied based on need

· This can be evening support and weekends but we can be flexible around your team’s needs to schedule this in the working day

· Sessions are scheduled at 1-hour maximum and can be by phone, video and possibly, face-to-face depending on location

· The Counselling is suitable for over 18-year-olds only

Mediation

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a tool that is used to resolve workplace conflicts or disputes. Often described as a form of alternative or informal dispute resolution (ADR) it’s less formal than undertaking grievance and disciplinary procedures or, indeed an employment tribunal. It does, however, follow a structured approach.

The role of a qualified Mediator is to facilitate discussion, not to provide solutions. A trained Mediator will act as an impartial third party who facilitates a meeting between two or more people in dispute to help them reach an agreement. Although, the Mediator will oversee the process, any agreement comes from those in dispute.

Why should you invest in Mediation?

It is often a swifter way to find a resolution to a difficult workplace situation. The aim of Mediation is to:

· Help both parties hold open constructive conversations that would usually be considered, too difficult

· Help both parties understand and empathise with each other’s emotions, circumstances, and situation

· Explore all parties’ issues and concerns and, use joint problem-solving to find a fair and suitable solution for each side

· Encourage open communication and establish sustainable, workable relationships

· Help all participants develop the skills to resolve any future workplace difficulties for themselves

Why should you use SYLO | Beyond HR. for your Mediation support?

Utilising the resources of an HR Consultancy, who offer specific Mediation Support (not all do) has distinct advantages, even if you also employ them to help with a full HR service.

Providing end–to-end support and advice on an ongoing basis enables you to avoid the many pitfalls (financial, legal and social) associated with a difficult workplace situation, which will undoubtedly have implications on the wider team, and the organisation.

By employing the expert resources of an HR Consultancy, such as SYLO | Beyond HR., at the very start of the process; you will ensure that identifying who and why a particular situation requires Mediation support, you are assured that you are legally, financially and socially providing the very best, for not only your employees, but also your organisation. The size and structure of our organisation ensures we are able to provide impartial Mediation support even though we may have worked with you for a while.

Our Mediation Support package, run by a fully qualified Mediator, whose duties include:

· Deciding and then managing how the Mediation will proceed

· Acting as an impartial referee in assisting the parties to try and settle the dispute

· Maintaining confidentiality regarding all communication and matters that arise in the Mediation. This includes the terms of any settlement reached by the parties

· Reaching an outcome Agreement that becomes legally binding when each party (or their representative) and the Mediator signs a copy of it

· This Workplace Mediation Agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales

Psychometric Assessments

To support your workforce, we also are qualified / accredited by SHL and Thomas International in delivering Psychometric Assessments.  We find these invaluable in learning more about the specific needs of an individual, and therefore we can really tailor development courses or support packages, such as Coaching, to match their needs and, those of your business.

Outplacement Support

We also offer a blend of Outplacement Support, online skills training and Career Advisory sessions for those needing to move on in their career, within and outside the organisation.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many UK businesses need to consider options around their business operations which may include the need to, unfortunately, reduce their employee numbers; always an unpleasant and unsettling experience for all.  However, there are some measures you can implement to make the redundancy experience as positive as possible, by offering Outplacement Support to affected employees -enabling them to positively move forward with their careers.

What is Outplacement Support?

Outplacement Support provides help, direction, and guidance to employees in finding new roles. This support can incorporate activities such as, CV review, interview training and preparation, tailored one-to-one Coaching, general job search advice, and an overview of career assessments.

Why should you invest in Outplacement Support?

It’s a common question, ‘why should we invest in helping people who are no longer our employees?’ The reason for this is to demonstrate that your company and brand values are mindful of their employees and have a genuine care for them.

This also maintains your company’s reputation whilst also showing the employees who remain with you, that as a business you will do the best you can for all your employees, even if they must leave.  Providing Outplacement Support for your employees is essentially giving them an opportunity in the world of uncertainty, something tangible to focus on that will provide real value.

Outplacement Support enables redundant employees to proceed much better prepared to the next chapter in their careers. We provide them the tools to characterise their interests, passions and direct their following steps which, leads to them becoming recruited again, much sooner than if Outplacement Support was not given.

Employees who lose their jobs will of course be worried about their financial position. Fortunately, Outplacement Support services are complimentary to all employees as this cost is covered by their employer.

By the end of the programme, individuals are trained and prepared to launch themselves into the job market and carry out an effective job search campaign with more confidence.

Our Outplacement Support:

  • Psychometrics
  • Assessing the emotional effect of COVID-19 and its associated trauma
  • Job searching
  • Personal brand guidance
  • Self-employment
  • Developing a winning CV
  • Handling change
  • Social media during career change

What our clients think
  • During what has proved a very trying time for most businesses, we decided to use the opportunity to rework and update all aspects of our HR & GDPR policies, as well as ensure we had solid and up to date health and safety policies.

With what can be a very daunting, and complicated set of processes, we engaged SYLO to help guide us through. We have been very impressed with the speed and attention to detail that has been demonstrated by each member of the team.

Simon Percy, Managing Director, Little Shadow, London

  • As a small business, we outsource our HR and spent some time reviewing various options before deciding on SYLO. We’ve now been supported by their team for over two years; they have handled everything in an extremely timely and professional manner. Communication is quick and clear and regular reviews mean we stay fully compliant with all regulation. The cloud-based HR system has proved particularly helpful. I would recommend SYLO without hesitation.

Gareth Wakefield, Chief Technical Officer, Xerion Healthcare, Bicester

  • From the moment we met with SYLO to discuss our ‘blue sky thinking’ in creating an in-house Leadership Programme, we felt confident in their ability to help us deliver our vision.  SYLO played an intrinsic part in the development of the 12-month Leadership Programme.  As well as expertly designing and facilitating our Development Centre, they were engaged to deliver various modules and one-to-one coaching for the Leadership cohorts for the duration of the programme.

More recently, the ability for the team at SYLO to pivot from face-to-face to online training at the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that we were able to continue to provide our employees with opportunities to learn and develop.

SYLO actively use feedback from training activities to adapt and improve the content and they have taken the time to get to know our business.  It has been a pleasure to work with the SYLO team this past 5 years and they continue to contribute to our business success.

Claire Madle, Training Advisor, Jonas Software, Wallingford

  • SYLO delivered on the brief by matching me with an excellent coach, Elizabeth, and someone that I trust implicitly.

The coaching is an invaluable investment of my time and enables me to step off the treadmill, re-focus and ensure that I am in the best position possible to execute my duties and add value to this fantastic business.

Rich Blunden, Group Managing Director, Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries, Berkhampstead

  • Sarah allows our business to concentrate on the jobs we set out to do, and not have to worry about the HR input with a highly professional service that she provides.

Stuart Barr, Director Stuart Barr CDR Ltd, BarrJoinery Ltd & BarrKitchens Ltd, Thame

  • As the recently appointed voluntary Commercial Director of a small-town sports club I was faced with the daunting task of establishing employment contracts with my part-time bar and catering staff, and also putting in place an HR documentation system. With the support of SYLO this has been accomplished to my total satisfaction and at a cost that I consider very reasonable. The SYLO team that I have worked with have been very fast, efficient and extremely professional and I cannot recommend them more highly.

David Leggett, Sports Club Commercial Director, Marlow

  • We contacted SYLO back in 2013 as a growing company in need of some HR support. Having experienced a period of fast growth we needed to take a step back and review where we were and what we needed to do to ensure we had a strong HR infrastructure from which to grow further. SYLO has proved invaluable in helping us find our way through the complexity of HR policy and procedure.

Since the initial contact, we have doubled in size and the partnership between Doig Furniture and SYLO has gone from strength to strength. They have been there every step of the way providing endless support with everything from recruitment to employment contracts to business development, and everything in between!

Duncan Doig, Managing Director Doig Furniture, Thame

  • Amongst the business disruption of 2020 also came the stark reality that businesses need to act and not just speak the words of Inclusion, but support the world to become more equitable. We needed experienced support to guide these conversations within our agency and to get the whole team involved in creating change, in the way we work and the work we do.  SYLO | Beyond HR was able to give guidance and clarity to create an agenda over 6 engaging workshops with 2 experienced facilitators.  The work doesn’t stop there and this year we look forward to working with SYLO on developing specific training sessions and organisational process improvements.

Lexi Clarke, Client Services Director, Action Rocket, London

  • I have had the pleasure of working with SYLO since March 2018 and I honestly couldn’t think of a better team to work with. SYLO joined Breathe’s Partner Programme in 2015, since when they have offered Breathe HR as part of their retained service packages they provide to their clients. These include proactive support which enables SMEs to focus on their people, rather than admin. SYLO have achieved Breathe Gold Partner Status and in recognition of their many successes and their excellent service, they were named Breathe Partner of the Year 2019 at our annual partner conference.

The team at SYLO are all passionate about the service they provide which is fully tailored to their clients’ needs. This is one of the many reasons they stand out from the crowd. They are an absolute joy to work with (I feel like I’m an extension of their team!) and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to SMEs.

Bethan Roles, Partner Account Manager, Breathe, Horsham

  • We found SYLO very approachable and professional – they took the time to understand the specific needs of our business and delivered a course which has provided real assistance and focus to time management across the various elements of our business.

Mark Pelopida | Head of Company Commercial Department (Partner), Machins Solicitors LLP, Luton

  • Sarah and Sally from SYLO are loyal and enthusiastic supporters of Lord Williams’s School. Their involvement includes the development and delivery of a range of Sixth Form workshops with an employment-related focus, providing work experience placements, and attending the School Business Breakfast meetings. The advice and guidance that SYLO | Beyond HR provide is based on extensive business experience and specialised knowledge of people recruitment and management. When working with our students, Sally and Sarah adapt this experience to the classroom situation to successfully engage and inform our young people in their preparation for the workplace.

I am delighted with and very grateful for the support SYLO has shown Lord Williams’s School and I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with them in the coming years.

Nicky Stallwood, Personal Development Curriculum Manager, Lord Williams’s School, Thame

  • Having appointed SYLO for a one-off project for our organisation we were extremely impressed by their understanding of the situation. The confidential professional manner how they approached the project, and how they gained the confidence of those taking part. Which resulted in a very comprehensive and informative report which will be of great use to us in the future, so much so, we have asked SYLO to undertake another project for us.

    Ann Midwinter, Thame
